Making a
Difference
Founded in 1996, the
Duncanville Independent School District Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization. The school district and the community work as
partners to seek alternative sources of revenue to fund teacher-created
learning projects for students that result in increased student achievement.
Funds for programs and projects are supplied outside of the regular school
district budget through a grant application process. Through nine grant
cycles, the Education Foundation has awarded $605,008.27 to Duncanville ISD teachers to date.
The volunteer Board of
Directors is
dedicated to ensuring that the students of Duncanville ISD receive the best
educational opportunities possible. It is understood that Duncanville ISD
provides an excellent fundamental education for students, but the decline in
school funding leaves a gap where special programs and projects are concerned.
The Board of Directors works with business leaders, community members, and the
school district to provide a valuable resource for instructional personnel. It
is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to encourage participation in
the three annual Education Foundation special fundraising events, the
Employee Annual Fund Drive each fall, the Champions for Children Golf
Tournament in October, and the Champions Ball in April.
The sole purpose of the
Education Foundation is to fund the creative and innovative techniques
developed by teachers. Teachers express their creative ideas for
project-based learning opportunities in the classroom in a brief grant
application process submitted to the Education Foundation once a year. In May,
those projects that the Board believes will have the greatest impact on
classroom learning are chosen for funding and implementation in the following school
year.
“Our teachers
win because they now have a new way of to fund their innovative ideas outside of the normal budget process. Our students win because these programs
make classroom learning fun and exciting. Finally, our
parents win by knowing that their students are receiving the best education
available.” - words of the late Jim Bilhartz, Jr.
Education Foundation events
are open to anyone who wishes to make a difference in the lives of the
students of the community. For additional information, please contact the
Foundation Office at 972.708.2053.
