How to Become a Substitute
During the academic year, Duncanville ISD staff members may need to be absent from duty due to a variety of reasons. When this occurs, substitute teachers are used to continue the instructional and support programs. Substitutes are utilized as classroom teachers and as paraprofessionals (teacher assistant or clerical positions).
1. Complete a Substitute Teacher application. You must apply online by clicking here.
2. The following documents must be submitted to the Human Resources Office in order to process each substitute teacher application:
- Official college transcripts, if applicable, or copy of high school diploma
- Copy of teaching certificate, if applicable
- Resume
- Three (3) copies of drivers license
- Three (3) copies of signed Social Security card
All substitute teacher applicants will be required to attend a Duncanville ISD
Substitute Orientation before they can begin working as a district employee. Applicants will be notified in writing of the date and time of the orientation.
The requested documents listed above must be received before the application will be processed. If all documents are not received, no notification will be sent regarding orientation.
All applicants for the position of Substitute Teacher must have completed a minimum of 60 hours of college credit (grade C or above). Applicants with less than 60 college hours will be allowed to substitute in paraprofessional positions only. All applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
