Duncanville ISD will move from a two-tier bus route plan to a three-tier plan with the start of the 2008-09 school year. This change will alter starting and ending times at all district campuses, and is prompted by the need to reduce overall district expenditures. The district estimates a savings of approximately $75,000 annually in transportation costs with the three-tier plan.
A three-tier bus schedule means that starting and ending times will be adjusted for all Duncanville schools. Grades 9-12 will start at 7:30 am and end at 3:00 pm, grades PK through 6 will start at 8:15 am and end at 3:45 pm, and grades 7 and 8 will start at 9:00 am and end at 4:30 pm.
The Board of Trustees reviewed these changes at the July 14 meeting. District families will receive communications from the district before school starts on August 25. "Like many Texas districts, the current state funding formula that is based on our 2005 budget numbers does not account for todays increases in the cost of doing business, especially fuel and utility expenses," said Superintendent Dr. Alfred Ray. "We are faced with tough choices for our district families, and we have to stretch our dollars and make necessary changes that produce savings." |
